When Cristina Rodriguez proposed that we participate again in the art and school program at the Reina Sofia Museum, we suggested working with the families of CEIP San José Obrero School this time. Until then, we had always worked with their students and the family sphere had appeared through them, but we had been thinking for a while how the school gate converted into a blurry meeting space for all families when picking up their kids.

Eli Padial from the AMPA (Parent-Teacher Association) of the school told us that this year was the 40th anniversary of the school and proposed that we participate, so it became clear that this was the context to develop an intervention with the support of the Museum.

Interviews

During April and May, we were recording musical memories from people waiting at the school gate to pick up their children. From the memory of an important song in their lives, they shared as diverse experiences as the educational community of the school, some about encounters and others about being far away from loved ones.

You can explore on play.antropoloops the two pieces we composed for the anniversary party with fragments of the songs chosen by the families of the students.

40th Anniversary of the School

Party

The week of the party we spent two mornings in the school library receiving all the primary groups to do a retrospective of the work we had done in the school. It was very exciting for us and for some of the kids to see their older siblings or cousins appearing in the videos we showed them from Sanjomix project.

After a failed attempt due to the torrential rains that fell in Seville in May, on May 18th the PTA organized a party in the afternoon where numerous families attended. Many people brought food for the snack and we spent the afternoon sampling musical memories.
