Gardens in the Air workshop
The workshop we did with kids from the A.E.S. Candelaria within the project 'Jardines en el Aire' had a double objective: to introduce the students to the active listening of their neighborhood, searching and collecting sounds of their daily life, and to build with that material an archive that would be used for the creation of a musical piece for the project Jardines en el Aire by Desir茅e Mart铆n.
To initiate and articulate this sound research work with the participating students, we decided to work with the history of the Voyager probe and the golden records...
The project 'Gardens in the Air', where our workshop was inserted, received the 1st Prize New European Bauhaus 2021.
A neighborhood voyager probe
After several recording sessions in different places in the neighborhood by groups, the students prepared messages to create a probe that could show their neighborhood to inhabitants of other distant places, imagining diagrams for a possible disc that would contain them. A mysterious wooden box from UTC Aerospace systems that was stored in a corner of the association's courtyard gave us the idea to build a physical probe with what we had on hand.
Synergies
You can listen to the piece composed by Desir茅e Mart铆n and performed by eLe project here
A piece, in the words of Nomad Garden, "to celebrate the multiplicity of voices -human and non-human- that make up the neighborhood of Tres Barrios-Amate and that have been distilled during the workshops held since July 2020 to condense into a polyphony composed of two acts and 7 movements. A piece through which we would like to go beyond the functionality of the garden itself, to promote a multisensory ritual where the links between the inhabitants of the neighborhood emerge... "
