“For the Homeric Greeks, kleos, fame, was made of song. Vibrations in air contained the measure and memory of a person’s life.”
The Song of Trees, David George Haskell, 2017
Kleos generates and weaves interconnected stories that aim to reveal the complex nature of places through their vegetation. Stories in which the sonic layer, built from the possible musical memories of plants, allow us to feel and experience the diverse, historical, and constantly changing environment, so that we can see ourselves reflected in it as a culture.
As a device, in Kleos each plant species is linked to a fragment of traditional music from the region of the world where it originates. These sound fragments are composed without modifying their original tones, allowing the user to mix and re-compose them throughout their journey. The botanical plane is the score for this historical remix work with the sonic memories of the species as intertwined melodies.
